Webtoon | When a Blue-Collar/White-Collar Worker Gets the Cheat of a Lifetime

Whether you're a white collar or a blue-collar, having a boss that constantly hounds you for whatever reason is just infuriating. You wanna slap them, but you can't unless you want to be between jobs. So, you just have to grit your teeth and take it. It's not uncommon, but many of the protagonists below beg to differ. Well, they have it easier because they have special abilities.

Webtoon | Your Regular Overpowered Necromancers

The earliest written mention of necromancy is in Homer's Odyssey where Odysseus sought the help of the dead to give him foresight about his trip back home. Yup, necromancy in the ancient world was mostly used for divination and even blessings. Today, particularly in fantasy stories, necromancy which is often used synonymously with death magic tends to focus more on undeads & curses. In the past, necromancers are villains, but now, authors have turned them into protagonists—well, to annoying extent. But, I'm easy to please. If I enjoy reading it, then that's a good story.

Webtoon | Murim Martial Artist Regresses For Revenge & To Change the Future

Regression is probably the next Isekai. Well, maybe after "hunter" fantasy like Solo Leveling. There are many reimagining of this trope with the most popular one likely being Re:Zero. Unpopular opinion: I did not like the novel or the anime. I'm not fond of stories that just repeatedly tortures the main character. Luckily, webtoons, except … Continue reading Webtoon | Murim Martial Artist Regresses For Revenge & To Change the Future

Webtoons | Breaking Out of RPG/Adventure Party Role Stereotypes

In a standard RPG party, the three basic roles are damage/DPS, tank & healer. Expanding from this three, a typical adventuring party will have roles such as the blaster, striker, defender, controller, healer, support, utility, scholar, scout and face. Having well-defined roles in a party ensures that everyone can focus on their task instead of being a half-assed jack-of-all-trades or at least keep things efficient. However, it seems that hybrid roles that don't follow the usual convention is by itself a trope in popular fantasy stories. Here are a few of them.

Urban Cultivation Webtoons

Cultivation is often set in an ancient period. That makes sense because martial arts practice is more ubiquitous then than now. It was truly a pugilistic world back then. But, readers also want to read something they can relate to such as the city life. It's definitely interesting to see how cultivators would go on their lives in an urban setting instead of the usual rustic backdrop.

Webtoons With Monster Protagonists

No, I don't mean protagonists with monstrous abilities. I'm talking about main characters who are literally monsters. In the isekai subgenre, the main characters in the titular trope will obviously face a challenge unlike anything they've ever imagined. I mean, that's the case for most isekai stories, but I think that turning into a monster is a tier more difficult than just being a human.

Survival Isekai Webtoons

Technically speaking, most isekai stories are about surviving in another world. But, I want to be more specific. These are webtoons where the characters are shoved into an otherworldly survival game, and they have to fight against monsters and other people. Humans can often become deadlier than monsters, and one must learn to adapt or else risk death.
