Cultivation novels are often set in ancient china or similar places with cities that follow the trend of such times. I think I may have read too many of them that they have started to lose their appeal to me. That's why when I found some cultivation novels that are set in an urban city - something extremely familiar to most of us - I was delighted. Horror novels can be set to virtually any time period in human history - past, present or future. However, the appeal of those set in the postmodern age(1950s-present) is that, for me at least, they are easier to digest and relate to because we are living in that age. Postmodern age is what we often refer to when we say "in a modern setting".
