The world has become extremely corrupted. King Yeomra was fed up with this problem; but he had high hopes for a mortal human who was destined to cleanse the world of corruption. However, the human’s destiny wasn’t fulfilled because he died prematurely.

Set in modern-day South Korea, Noh Hyung Jin was a bar exam passer with a perfect score, and a 95% case win rate. He was a famous lawyer known to go after corrupt individuals regardless of their stature in the society. Unfortunately, good things came to an end when he inadvertently kicked an iron plate. He was murdered by NIS agents at the orders of the nation’s president. King Yeomra who was unsatisfied with this conclusion sent Hyung Jin with his memories intact back to the time when he was still in middle school. Despite that, Hyung Jin could just end up the same way he died. In order to increase Hyung Jin’s chances of survival, he gave Hyung Jin an ability which is a mix of telemetry and chrono vision.

In this webtoon, the main character is a genius lawyer who can see the past, present or future through close contact with a related object. Although he just went back to the middle school period in his life, he immediately remembers the crimes that are happening in his school. He had the past memories regarding his profession, so he cracks down on one crime after another to change the future using this knowledge.

The webtoon didn’t waste any time; and with few chapters in, I already saw the MC do what he was made for. As for realism, the law system in the webtoon is based on the Korean law system which is a plus. One of my gripes is that age hierarchy which is observed strictly in Korean culture wasn’t as pronounced as I thought it would be in the webtoon provided that school bullying, sexual harassment and dereliction of duty were the themes the webtoon focused on in the earliest chapters. An adult wouldn’t just sit there if someone younger than him acted like a know-it-all then started chastising and threatening him. Another one is the art style which was decent, but failed to create a serious atmosphere for what’s supposed to be a drama webtoon rather than comedy.

Hyung Jin is the most interesting character so far in the story as he should be. He is straight-forward, and doesn’t back down against injustice. He is very calculating, and has a somewhat gray morality rather than a black and white one. It seemed like aside from the special ability he got, he is also all-knowing when it comes to Korean law. I didn’t quite like this aspect because I wanted him to experience some setbacks which is good for character development. I often find that most redo/second chance stories, because the main characters were once adults, leave little room for the protagonist’s character development. Surely, there are excellent ones out there where character growth and development is really striking like “The Second Coming of Gluttony“. Nevertheless, redo/second chance webtoons often leave this aspect barely touched upon.

Overall, I say this webtoon is good for a light read. It is a Detective Conan-esque story where instead of solving crimes, the protagonist is winning court cases. The story definitely has potential to be more than just a way to kill time, but I will leave that to your judgment. I give it 7 out of 10 for now.

Rant Corner

Did you know that in South Korea you can have a lighter sentence if you committed a crime while drunk? Yes, it’s surprisingly true. In my personal opinion, it’s a very dumb idea… I mean, if you know that you do stupid stuff while drunk, drink moderately or just don’t drink at all especially without supervision. However, it seems that in South Korea, alcohol is blamed instead of the person who drank it; and apparently, drinking moderately and responsibly isn’t a thing there. I found this one article about it which is just f*cked up.
